| Question | Option A | Option B |
|---|---|---|
| Typical buyer | Google-heavy personal user | Heavy Google AI, creative, research, storage, or developer user |
| Best reason to pay | Gemini plus Google ecosystem value | Higher-tier Google AI access plus a larger bundle |
| Risk | Buying Google AI when you do not use Google apps | Paying for bundle benefits you do not use |
| Decision rule | Choose Pro for normal Google AI needs | Choose Ultra only after Pro is too small or the bundle saves other costs |
Decision rules
Gmail, Docs, Drive, Android, Gemini, NotebookLM, or Google One storage are part of your weekly workflow.
You need the highest Google AI tier, higher creative/research capacity, or bundle benefits that replace other spend.
Your work lives mainly in Microsoft, Claude, ChatGPT, or Perplexity-style source research.
Personal Google AI plans and Workspace/business paths are not the same buying decision.
Seven-day test
A comparison only matters when it changes what you keep, cancel, or test next.
| Day | Test | What to decide |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Run your normal daily prompts | Which tool do you naturally return to? |
| 2 | Use one real work item | Which tool saves more time without extra cleanup? |
| 3 | Test files, sources, or integrations | Which tool handles the actual materials you use? |
| 4 | Check limits | Which plan blocks your workflow first? |
| 5 | Check privacy and data settings | Which route is safer for your work or school data? |
| 6 | Check cancellation and billing | Who bills you, and how do you stop renewal? |
| 7 | Keep one default | Pick the plan that earned repeated use, not the one with the louder pitch. |

| Question | What to do | Bad sign |
|---|---|---|
| What weekly task will this solve? | Write down the exact job: research, writing, coding, files, office work, studying, planning, or normal daily chat. | You can only say that the tool seems powerful. |
| Which plan tier is enough? | Start with the cheapest tier that can handle the job, then upgrade only when limits block real work. | You jump straight to the most expensive tier without testing lower plans. |
| What is the alternative? | Compare at least one competing AI subscription and one free workflow before paying annually. | You compare only marketing pages instead of running the same task in both tools. |
| What data will you upload? | Check privacy, retention, training settings, connectors, team admin access, and export options before using sensitive material. | You upload business, customer, legal, medical, school, or financial data without checking terms. |
| How will you measure value? | Track whether the plan saved time, improved quality, reduced software overlap, or helped you finish work you would otherwise avoid. | You keep paying because cancellation feels annoying. |
| What happens if you regret it? | Save receipts, renewal dates, cancellation confirmations, app-store billing details, and support messages. | You do not know who billed you or where refunds are handled. |
Buyer audit
A paid AI plan should survive a basic audit: normal daily use, one serious task, limits, privacy, billing, and whether another tool already solves the same job.
Name three ordinary tasks you will use this for this week. If you cannot, a free plan or monthly test is safer.
Run one real work item through the tool: a document, report, coding issue, research question, presentation, or business task.
Check message caps, model access, file uploads, research limits, image or voice limits, and whether the plan changes by region.
Know whether chats, files, connectors, or team content can be used for training, retained, exported, deleted, or seen by admins.
Find the renewal date, cancellation route, app-store billing path, invoice method, tax, refund policy, and annual-plan terms.
If you already pay for another AI subscription, decide whether the new plan replaces it, complements it, or just duplicates it.
